About

This story is really about the growers and the movement to bring their craft to cafes for everyone to enjoy a pure, simple cup of chocolatey joe.

But since cacao’s richness finds its source in its origin story, here’s ours.

Scene I

I grew up in Indonesia.

From the evening call to prayer to island sunsets that turn the world pink to the friendly neighborhood cats, Indonesia was home for a long time, even after I left.

I carry Indonesia with me everywhere I go.

Kakao Raya is a chance to connect more deeply and meaningfully with Indonesia and my former kelompok, staying true to the promise I made that I’d always find my way back.

Scene II

For those of us who don’t drink coffee, our options stepping up to order at a coffee shop can be dismal. You might not even go to a coffee shop because there’s usually nothing for you.

Coffee is off the table, non-herbal tea and matcha are a no-go. It’s either 8am or 3pm…do I want to down 30 grams of sugar in a powdered hot chocolate? Do I really want to pay $6 for frothed warm almond milk…again?

It’s an experience I’d to amend.

Scene III

Choosing not to drink coffee means missing out on the global ritual that connects entire communities, reaches deep into cultural histories, and honors farmers along the supply chain who grow this novelty that fuels our daily worlds.

“Kakao Raya”—directly translated from Indonesian as a “celebration of cacao”—is a love letter to Indonesia. It’s a movement to expand coffee shop offerings so everyone has a place in these cozy community nooks away from the world.

From Indonesia to Salt Lake City to you, we’re here to change the coffee shop narrative. We’re introducing cacao to cafes.
